Imagine the world’s fastest solar install. It only takes a few minutes. Regular people with no special training mount a solar panel and power bank at the window. It may not power everything inside, but it will power essentials, like phones, when we need them most- during a power outage. Working with materials like oak and walnut, polished aluminum, and 3D printed plastics, we designed and built a number of prototypes at New Lab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Then we tested them with people young and old in windows from Brooklyn to Manhattan, and down to Jamaica, Mexico, Cuba, and even, by accident, during a hurricane in the Bahamas.
